2023 IEEE GameSIG ShowcaseMy name is Bill Fisher. I’m Chair of the IEEE GameSIG and one of the world’s first video game programmers.

I’ve been running my own video game company – and hiring lots of new grads – for almost 40 years.

Do you want to know how to get my attention and make your resume stand out in a huge pile of incoming lookalikes?

  • Prove you can do something.
  • Prove you can take a project from concept to execution.
  • Prove you have enough confidence in your own ideas to be willing to get up in front of a bunch of seasoned industry veterans and sell them on your game.

If your resume says “Finalist – IEEE GameSIG Showcase 2023”, it tells me a lot about your character.

It tells me more than your GPA, more than the list of tools, languages, or platforms you know how to use. It tells me that you can work as part of a team and that you can finish what you start.

Which would you rather put on your resume: a job at a coffee shop or one that’s directly related to your major and your career goals?

Every resume talks about the school you go to, the classes you take, and maybe a few personal details. But these are only the bare minimum of what I want to see. By themselves, they say very little. What speaks loudly is your willingness to take initiative and do more than just that minimum.

I want to see:

  • You know how to start with an idea;
  • Turn it into a set of requirements;
  • Select appropriate tools;
  • Then, actually build something meaningful.

It doesn’t even have to be complete. As long as you can actually do it and then explain why you did it, you’re well on your way to the top of that heap of resumes.

So – how can you do that?

Simple. Sign up for the next IEEE GameSIG Showcase event.

2023 IEEE GameSIG Computer Game Showcase

If you’re already doing a game as a class project, or you created a concept in a game jam that you want to develop, enter our competition! You have nothing to lose and a life-changing career to gain.

As long as you and your teammates are in college or high school with original code, you’re good!

You don’t even need final, fancy artwork, sound, or music. And you don’t all need to be from the same school. Do what you do, and do it well. That’s all we ask.

Get Started

It’s easy to get started. Go to IEEE GameSIG Showcase and download our Overview Template.

Before you get started:

  • Make sure you qualify.
  • Talk with your instructors.
  • Then, build your game and submit a pitch video during the submission window 24 March 2023 to 4 April 2023.

The top ten submissions will be selected as finalists and invited to present their games live or online to our panel of industry experts on Sunday, 16 April 2023 at California State University, Fullerton.

Check in regularly on the IEEE GameSIG website for updates, and talk to the instructors at your school, so they can help guide you, answer questions and polish your pitch.

We look forward to seeing your games!
